In mythical times, the Ancestor Women wandered the territory inhabited by the Warlpiri People. During their journey, they created many geographical objects in this land and also performed ceremonies (dancing, singing and body painting). They showed people how to make hair strings and use them for ceremonies and in everyday life.
Mary Dixon Nungarrayi is the senior guardian of this Dreaming. Concentric circles represent ceremony sites, as well as rock formations and waterholes. The sinusoidal line represents a strand of hair. The author is known for her intricate patterns of dots and earth colours. Her works are included in Australian and international collections.
