Roseanne Morton (Pwerle)

Roseanne Morton Petyarre is a famous Australian artist, hailing from the Utopia region of Central Australia. She speaks Anmatyerre and is known for her meticulous attention to detail and strong cultural sensitivity. Roseanne is part of a multi-generational dynasty of artists who have helped transform the perception of Aboriginal art from an age-old narrative into a cherished contemporary art form.

Roseanne was born in 1984 in Boundary Bore (Atneltye), approximately 240 km northeast of Alice Springs, in a community where Indigenous practices, ceremonies, and languages ​​were cultivated and taught in daily life. As a young woman, her family lived close to the land, where family members held important Dreams (the stories of the ancestors' creation) and sacred wisdom.

Her mother, Gracie Morton Pwerle, is an acclaimed artist, particularly known for her "Bush Plum Dreaming" paintings. Her great-aunts (Gloria Petyarre, Kathleen Petyarre, Ada Bird Petyarre, Myrtle Petyarre, and Violet Petyarre) are leaders in the Utopia art movement, and Roseanne also draws inspiration from them and is artistically connected to them.
